What is Polyhouse?

A polyhouse is a specialized form of greenhouse that utilizes a structure made from galvanized iron with a covering of UV-stabilized polyfilm. This design facilitates controlled environmental conditions to support plant growth throughout various seasons. Polyhouses range in size from small structures to large industrial buildings, tailored to the specific needs and resources of the farming operation.

Polyhouse farming stands out as a cost-effective alternative to structures made from polycarbonate or glass. The key element, polyfilm sheets, creates a barrier between the internal and external environments. Modern polyhouses are moving away from wooden frames towards more robust materials like galvanized iron pipes, enhancing their durability against severe weather conditions.

Particularly in regions with extreme climates, such as Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan in India, polyhouse farming offers a viable solution due to its ability to maintain controlled climatic conditions through the use of UV-stabilized polyfilm sheets. This makes polyhouse farming an affordable option for greenhouse cultivation.

What is Nethouse?

A nethouse is a type of greenhouse-like structure used in agriculture, but instead of being covered with glass or solid plastic, it is enclosed with mesh or netting. These nets are typically made from synthetic materials like polyethylene or nylon. The primary purpose of a nethouse is to provide a controlled environment for plants while offering protection from various external factors.

Nethouses are widely used for growing vegetables, fruits, flowers, and other plants. They are especially popular in regions with harsh climatic conditions, where they can extend the growing season or even enable off-season production. They offer a cost-effective alternative to more sophisticated greenhouse structures, particularly in developing countries or for small to medium-sized farming operations.

What is Fan Pad Polyhouse?

A fan-pad polyhouse is a type of environmentally controlled greenhouse used primarily for agricultural purposes. This design incorporates a cooling system that utilizes exhaust fans and evaporative cooling pads. The “pad” refers to a wall or panel made from a material that can absorb water, while the “fan” part of the system refers to exhaust fans placed at the opposite end of the polyhouse.

Fan-pad polyhouses are particularly effective in hot and dry climates where evaporative cooling can significantly reduce temperatures inside the structure. This system allows for the control of temperature and humidity within the polyhouse, creating an optimal environment for the growth of various crops.
